Steve Jennings – Cheshire and Warrington Housing Alliance

Steve was born in Liverpool and was brought up in a slum clearance area and it was this early experience that led him, unwittingly into a career in housing. Steve started as a trainee with Liverpool City Council and his initial placement was in the Housing Department and he has worked in housing ever since

After cutting his teeth in the world of council housing he moved to join Riverside Housing Group in 1982. At that stage Riverside was only based in Merseyside and before he left in 1996 he was part of a team that was establishing the Association in other parts of the country. His career has taken him to most areas of the North West and he has direct experience of the full range of activities that Housing Associations undertake from development , regeneration through to neighbourhood management,

Steve joined Weaver Vale Housing Trust from the Manchester based Harvest Housing Group in 2004 and has now been the Chief Executive of the Trust for 8 years.

Steve has led the Trust to deliver some of the best performance results in the country and in 2012 the Trust gained entry into the Sunday Times Top 100 Employers for the third year in a row.

In addition to his “day job” at the Trust, Steve was until recently the Chair of the Cheshire & Warrington Housing Alliance and an external examiner at JMU in Liverpool. He is currently on the Board of South Liverpool Housing and is a member of the Cheshire Common Purpose Advisory Board. He has also recently been appointed to the West Cheshire Public Services Board. This is a new body set up to lead the implementation of a national pilot on “Community Budgets” within West Cheshire.

Steve is a lifelong supporter of Liverpool FC and has 2 teenage kids, these together with an active social life with his partner, just about fills up any spare time he may have outside of work.
